Conservationists are warning people to not pick up turtles as pets when they seem them in the wild. Right now, they are in their nesting season, and it’s common to see them. It’s fine to help them cross the street (always in the direction they’re already heading, of course!) to stay safe, but to take them home can risk all kinds of complications—both for the turtles as well as the humans who think they’re rescuing them.
