Last night I ran into a brooklyn.typepad.com/only_the_blog_knows_brook/" target="_self">story about a two-headed turtle in a Brooklyn pet shop that was rescued from a sure death in Florida. The exotic animal had been living in the pet shop for weeks and drawing the attention of neighbors, mostly children, who marveled at the curious reptile.
But according to the pet shop owner, sometime on Sunday afternoon the turtle went missing. A police report was filed and a reward is being offered for the safe return of this beloved oddity. There are no suspects.
The turtle, still unnamed, was rescued from a man in Florida who struggled to care for it. Although rare, two-headed turtles have a better chance of living in captivity than in the wild, where they usually die within days.
The pet store owner thinks it was one of the neighborhood kids who stole his turtle, and not a thief intent on selling it. But just in case someone offers to sell you a two-headed turtle in Brooklyn, we suggest you say no and call the authorities.
